Jorrel Hato, one of the brightest prospects to emerge from Ajax’s academy in recent years, has attracted serious interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool ahead of the summer transfer window. The 19-year-old has already made over 50 senior appearances for the Dutch club and is valued for his left foot, positional discipline and comfort in building from the back.
According to Mike Verweij, a well-sourced Dutch journalist speaking to Voetbal Primeur, Chelsea have already made initial contact with Ajax. “Ajax have spoken to Chelsea about Hato. The player has also been linked to Liverpool and Arsenal, which allows Ajax to position themselves for a stronger financial return — much like they did in the Lisandro Martínez deal,” Verweij explained.
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca is said to view Hato as a cornerstone for his new defensive system, according to a report in The Hard Tackle. The club has reportedly opened informal dialogue with Ajax CEO Alex Kroes to accelerate negotiations.
Arsenal’s interest aligns with Mikel Arteta’s preference for technically adept, tactically versatile defenders. Hato’s ability to operate both as a left-sided centre-back and at left-back fits the Gunners’ evolving defensive structure. Meanwhile, TeamTalk reports that Liverpool have also contacted Ajax, aiming to inject youth and dynamism into their back line.
Hato made his senior debut at 16 and has since become a regular in both Eredivisie and European competitions. His maturity, ability to progress the ball under pressure, and natural left-footed balance have made him one of Europe’s most intriguing defensive prospects. His market value is estimated at €30 million, according to Transfermarkt.
Despite being under contract until 2028, Ajax are reportedly willing to entertain offers. The Times noted that the club views a potential Hato transfer as part of their long-standing model — selling developed academy talent for high returns, as seen with Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martínez.
While Chelsea are currently considered to be in a favourable position, Arsenal and Liverpool are also preparing structured offers. This decision will not only determine the transfer fee Ajax can secure from the deal, but also reveal which Premier League giant lands a key defensive target — and which one lands a decisive blow in the summer market.
