After struggling to earn playing time at Paris Saint-Germain, Hugo Ekitike joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan in January 2024. The club secured his permanent transfer shortly after for €16.5 million.
The 22-year-old quickly became Frankfurt’s main striker, especially after Omar Marmoush moved to Manchester City during the same window. Ekitike ended the season with 22 goals and 11 assists across all competitions, including 15 in the Bundesliga.
Following increased interest, Frankfurt have updated their valuation of Ekitike. Yahoo Sports reports that the Bundesliga side are now seeking between €90 million and €100 million for the French forward.
In an interview with Sky Germany analyst Jan Åge Fjørtoft, club CEO Axel Hellmann commented:
“I would love for him to stay here for the next ten years. But we’re all realistic. Hugo is one of the biggest prospects in Europe. He’s 22 and has a tremendous future. And as we know — the market is the market.”
In the same interview, Hellmann added:
“Players like Hugo open doors to other markets. He could easily fit into clubs a little further south in Europe.”
German outlet BILD interpreted this as a possible reference to clubs in Spain, including Real Madrid. However, this remains a media interpretation; no official link to Real Madrid has been confirmed by the club or the player.
Sky Sports has reported that Liverpool are monitoring Ekitike’s development and have listed him among their attacking targets. ESPN states that Arsenal have identified Ekitike as an alternative to Alexander Isak due to Newcastle’s high asking price.
Yahoo Sports also confirms interest from both clubs. However, as of now, no official bids have been submitted according to public sources.
Frankfurt hold full contractual control over Ekitike and are under no financial pressure to sell. The club, as confirmed by Sky Germany, will only consider offers that fully reflect the player’s market value.
The direction of the transfer will depend on the quality of incoming bids, the player's role expectations, and strategic planning by interested clubs during the summer window.
