Brentford remain firm in their stance as Manchester United struggle to finalise a deal for Bryan Mbeumo.
According to Sky Sports, Manchester United have submitted two offers for Bryan Mbeumo. The first bid was worth £45 million fixed plus £10 million in bonuses, totalling £55 million. This was followed by a second bid of £55 million fixed plus £7.5 million in bonuses, totalling £62.5 million. Brentford, however, rejected this offer as well. The club is reportedly demanding at least £65 million for the player, with a significant portion of that amount to be paid upfront, according to Sky Sports.
Brentford’s Sporting Director Phil Giles acknowledged the club would welcome keeping Mbeumo in their ranks for another season. In a statement to Sky Sports, Giles said:
“He had an unbelievable season, and we expected interest in him. From what I understand, he is also, if needs be, happy to stay at Brentford next year as well.”
The United camp is proceeding with caution in the transfer. The club does not want to repeat past mistakes involving high-cost signings. Additionally, Sky News reports that a cost-cutting programme introduced under Sir Jim Ratcliffe has resulted in significant reductions to staffing expenditure. The report noted that up to 200 more staff members could face redundancy, with perks such as free lunches also being withdrawn.
At the start of the summer, Mbeumo openly expressed his desire to join United and had hoped the transfer would be completed before Brentford’s pre-season began.
“Mbeumo had been keen to see his future resolved before Brentford’s pre-season began on Monday...”
as reported by The Athletic. However, according to the same source, little progress has been made in recent weeks. The player’s growing frustration was confirmed by Cameroon national team assistant coach Ashu Cyprian Besong, who told Yahoo Sports:
“Yes, obviously he’s very frustrated with how long it’s taken… he’s already told them he wants to go to United”
Per reports from The Times and The Sun, Mbeumo is seeking a wage package in the region of £250,000 per week, significantly higher than his current £45,000 weekly salary at Brentford, as recorded by Capology. This fivefold increase adds financial complexity to any deal from United’s perspective.
Mbeumo offers a rare blend of close control and explosive power. In possession, he’s composed and incisive in tight spaces, often beating defenders one-on-one. Off the ball, his timing and spatial awareness constantly stretch opposition lines. Over the last season, he has notably improved his composure in possession and link-up play around the penalty area.
Last season, Mbeumo delivered an outstanding attacking output, registering 20 goals and 8 assists in 32 Premier League matches. His influence went beyond numbers: he consistently exploited space, destabilised defensive lines, and contributed effectively both on and off the ball.
Since making his debut for Cameroon in 2022, Mbeumo has made 22 international appearances and scored 6 goals. His consistent performances for Cameroon have further elevated his growing profile.
As the transfer window advances and Brentford's preparations intensify, the pressure mounts for all parties to reach a resolution. Whether United return with an improved offer or Brentford decide to hold firm, Mbeumo's future remains one of the key storylines to watch in the weeks ahead.
